Sauna Belts: Arguably A Load Of Malarkey

By Caroline Dean

Sauna belts are a new electronic device that have been hitting the late night television infomercials recently. There is a number of different claimed benefits surrounding them, and while many of these health benefits may be overtly exaggerated it's still an important topic worthy of breaking down in a rational manner in order to elucidate what the honest truth is. These belts are fairly light on the wallet and come in a few different formats. There seems to be two leading competing brands in this arena: the velform belt, and the sauna pro 3 belt.

A lot of exercise forums have made fun of these belts because of the claims on their literature. Lose weight while you watch TV, without the need for moving! While some of the claims suggesting you can lose lots of weight without any exercise you can be assured are definitely patently false, it is important to embed in your mind that anytime your heart races this does necessitates extra burning of calories. Though, it's likely, you would never begin to reach the heart rate of an individual in a full sized sauna, or even less likely yet, a man or woman sprinting on the treadmill.

Most weight lost through sauna use, or by a sauna belt would consist of the weight of lost water. Even if you did lose real amounts of weights from the use of either, you would be a lot more likely to notice loss of fluids on your weight scale prior to anything else, and this fact is most likely the reason for the unabashedly harsh criticism. Sauna belts vary in price all the way from twenty dollars up to two hundred. If I was going to purchase one, I'd assuredly go with the most inexpensive type.

There is one potential way to make use of a sauna belt that could make some sense. They could be used to apply radiant heat to the waist or back as a useful therapy for various pains. Enduring pain may greatly decrease overall quality-of-life, as well as decrease the number of hours a person is able to spend working. Thus, pain can also reduce income. Using a sauna belt in order to help with pain problems is a perfectly legitimate use, and may be especially well-suited for people who spend a lot of time seated.

Make sure that, if you do happen to order some sort of sauna belt, you choose one that has an automatic shut-off mechanism to avoid the risk of fire induced by sauna belt left unattended. Most of the sauna belts, velform for example, do are shipped with an automatic shut-off mechanism that kicks on around the hour mark. Do not forget, though, that expecting these devices will assist you in weight loss is certainly a long shot, but if you need localized heat in your waist, possibly for pain, they could be a fantastic investment.
